Am I Addicted - Lessons From a Motivational Speaker
Am I addicted?
I had the opportunity to swim with whale sharks today. Lucky I know.
But here’s the thing…
At 7.30 am we were on the bus, driving to the inflatable boat that ferried us to the main boat.
We all got masks and flippers and training.
A practice swim in the lagoon then we headed out through the reef break and waited for news from the spotter plane.
Sharks sighted. GO GO GO.
We jump into the Indian Ocean and line up with our lead swimmer to swim alongside the whale shark for a minute.
Back onto the boat and repeat this another 5 times.
Then someone said lunch. Wait? What?
I looked at my watch and it was only 12.30 pm.
It felt like a day's worth of adventure. How can that be?
Compare that to a normal day.
I think. I write. I connect dots. I lose myself in thought.
I look at my watch and it’s already lunchtime. Where did the time go?
I feel like I’ve achieved nothing but I have. I love it. I love it so much that I often ignore the nuts and bolts of keeping my business running.
I love this ‘flow state’ so much that I do it again and again and again.
Days fly by. Weeks melt into months where I'm lost in my head.
Sitting on that boat today I got a shock. Have I become addicted to the FLOW of creating stuff online and missing out on the real world by preferring the comfort of my own head?
Am I no different to a teen lost online to gaming?
Anyone else? thoughts?
