Can't get motivated?
Try this.
First, understand where most people get it wrong.
They think…
1. Once I feel motivated then I’ll start.
2. I’ll then be able to throw myself into the work
3. Then I’ll see results and keep going
4. Then success
If you’re struggling to feel motivated you might have confused feelings and outcomes.
If you have ever told your kids to tidy their room and they say ‘But I don’t feel like it today’
What is the universal parental response?
‘I don’t care what you feel like, just do it.’
To get stuff done we have to break the crippling connection between our emotions and the outcome we want.
Try this instead.
1. Start with discipline which is simply doing tasks without emotion
2. Keep doing this until you see the first small results
3. Motivation kicks in here.
4. and this is the kicker, motivation is an anaesthetic for more hard work
so now the cycle repeats.
Motivation is an output, not an input. So stop looking for it in the wrong place.
Instead, do a lot of small things you don’t want to do and you’ll be doing the big things you want to do.
