Pithy Messages - Insights From a Motivational Speaker

change keynote speaker motivational speaker resilience

I am continually on the hunt for pithy ways to say complex ideas.

This is my worksheet from 6 key messages I deliver in my keynote talks to business audiences.

FAIL QUICKLY, FAIL QUIETLY, REPEAT. Resilience is the skill of turning short-term loss into long-term positive gain... and skills can be learned.

  1. Short-Term Setbacks. Long-Term Strength.
  2. struggle and strength
  3. setbacks into stepping stones.

GENERALIST IS THE NEW SPECIALIST Who is valuable in a fast-changing world? Those who can change & bring new thinking to old problems.

  1. Be a Swiss Army Knife, Not a Single-Use Tool.
  2. Generalists Win Where Specialists Struggle.
  3. Problem-solvers, not job titles, drive success.
  4. New problems need fresh perspectives, not old expertise.
  5. Specialization locks you in. Adaptability sets you free.
  6. Generalists don’t know everything—they know how to learn anything.
  7. Specialists are trained for a world that no longer exists.
  8. You don’t need all the answers—you need to know how to find them.

RESIGN OR REWIRE? Outside solutions rarely solve inside problems so don't quit too soon. There's probably a better solution you haven't even thought of yet.

  1. Quit or Commit? The Choice Is Yours.
  2. Fix It or Flee? The Power of Reframing.
  3. Escape or Adapt? The Answer Lies Within.
  4. Step Out or Step Up?
  5. Before You Go, Grow.
  6. You don’t need to resign. You need to realign.
  7. Before you exit, explore.
  8. The key to change isn’t quitting—it’s questioning.

OWN UP Stop blaming others for where you are and take responsibility for where you are going.

  1. Take Charge or Take What You’re Given.
  2. Your Life, Your Choices, Your Move.
  3. Be the Driver, Not the Passenger.
  4. Nothing changes until you do.

WISE UP You can’t win a new game playing by old rules. It's time to learn-unlearn-relearn.

  1. Adapt or Get Left Behind.
  2. New Challenges Need New Thinking.
  3. What Got You Here Won’t Get You There.
  4. Winning requires letting go of what no longer works.
  5. Change isn’t a threat. Stagnation is.
  6. Learning never stops—unless you want to be left behind.
  7. stay curious, not comfortable.

STEP UP Feeling stuck? Take a daily dose of mild discomfort & you’ll start doing things you never thought you could do.

  1. Small Steps. Big Change.
  2. Small challenges lead to big breakthroughs.
  3. Growth isn’t about giant leaps—it’s about daily nudges.
  4. What scares you today will strengthen you tomorrow.

If you have some better ideas for these, please let me know. I'll be be grateful.
