The Most Human Upgrade of All

We already ran the experiment. We already know the answer.
During lockdown, we had endless time to talk to machines.
But what we craved—desperately—was each other.
As Sherry Turkle writes in Reclaiming Conversation:
“We had all the time in the world to communicate through machines... but more than anything, we missed each other and how we find ourselves in the presence of one another.”
We banged pots and pans.
We stood on balconies.
We changed our routines just to feel together.
So yes, chatbots might soothe loneliness.
But real change—the kind that heals—comes from presence, not performance.
Let’s not forget the most human upgrade of all:
each other.
