Understanding Value - Lessons From a Motivational Speaker
A lawyer goes to the dentist.
He’s in the chair for 10 minutes.
He’s paying the bill and says to the dentist…
‘You get paid more in ten minutes than what I get paid for in an hour!’
The dentist says…
‘Would you rather I take an hour?’
Almost everyone gets this joke immediately.
When I was younger I didn’t understand what value is and how it works.
If I had seen this joke, then many conversations I had with managers asking me to do things I didn’t think were reasonable would have gone very differently.
If you are asking others to change, do you have the right tool for the job?
Simple language, stories, jokes, analogies are often far more effective than wordy documents.
Stop overcomplicating change, under-complicate it.

Turns out I know how to change, I know how to make it simple, and I know how to stand on stage & make it fun so others want to do it too.
