Lead By Example - Insights From a Motivational Speaker
Preach your gospel. When necessary, use words.
We wonder why our kids never do as we say. That’s because they’re too busy watching what we do.
And our actions speak louder than our words. If you ever doubt that, you haven’t yet had that unsettling moment where you realise “I’ve turned into my parents!”
It’s not easy being an imperfect human and often it’s easier to talk the talk and not walk the walk.
So if you are driving change at work or at home and you’re not seeing the change you had hoped for
🔸 Then ask yourself
🔸 Am I being the change I want to see?
🔸 What are you saying that is at odds with what you are doing?
I read this about Richard Branson.
He hates gossip. He sees it as detrimental to good business.
Gossip to him and he doesn’t challenge you or admonish you.
He just walks away.
But I’m not a leader you say. Really?
🔸 Being a leader is not a rank or a title.
🔸 People want to be led.
🔸 People are hungry for good leadership.
🔸 Be the change you want to see in your office. Others will follow.
🔸 Be the change you want to see at home. Your family will adapt.
What’s one small thing you can start doing today? Just one. Do that today and everyday then move on to another.
Leading through change is not easy.
🔸 But changing how you lead doesn’t have to be hard.

If we haven’t met yet…
I never considered myself good at change until I went from
-average shot to army sniper
-home movies to National Geographic cameraman
-fumbling card tricks to a professional magician
-never swinging a hammer to building a home
-high school dropout to published author
-business illiterate to building & selling a business
-stutterer to motivational speaker
Turns out I know how to change, I know how to make it simple, and I know how to stand on stage & make it fun so others want to do it too.

Summary:
Actions speak louder than words, especially when driving change. Whether at home or at work, people are more likely to follow what you do rather than what you say. Richard Branson's quiet approach to avoiding gossip exemplifies this. Leadership isn't about rank; it's about setting an example that others will naturally follow. To create lasting change, start with one small action that aligns with your values, and keep building from there.
Lessons Learned:
- Lead by example: People follow actions, not words.
- Consistency matters: Ensure your actions align with the change you want.
- Leadership is influence: You don't need a title to lead; people crave good leadership.
- Start small: Begin with one manageable change today and build momentum.
