Therapy On Stage - Insights From a Motivational Speaker

change keynote speaker motivational speaker resilience

Beware therapy on stage. Therapy on stage describes what happens when an inexperienced speaker recalls a traumatic event in their life and unprocessed emotions bubble to the surface. The speaker struggles with composure and often sobs through that part of their talk. The inexperienced speaker thinks that this adds authenticity and strengthens their message. It doesn't. Your job as a speaker is to lighten the load the audience may be carrying. Your job is to help solve the audience's problems with your insight and engaging delivery. It is not the audience's job to help you process your emotions. You must do that in your own time by rehearsing and delivering your talk until you have mastered your emotions.
