How a Motivational Keynote Speaker Chooses The Right Stories

keynote speaker motivational speaker

Two rules of story choice:

1. It has to have happened to you or one degree of separation away from you.

- This happened to me at my last job...
- My partner experienced the same thing...
- I read this great story about a woman named...

2. The story has to have a lesson

- it taught me something I hadn't realised...
- and I learned this the hard way...
- and everybody was surprised that...

By sharing your stories

- where you struggled
- where you weren't perfect
- where you were once a beginner too

you can build trust

BUT only if these stories are true.

If you make up stories and get found out later you will find it hard to rebuild that broken trust.
